Pain comes in many forms. It can be dull pain or sharp stabbing pain. It can be a pain that comes and goes, or with you at all times due to a chronic condition or from an injury. Pain can be a wandering nomad, moving to different parts of the body (as in Rheumatoid Arthritis) or it can concentrate on a specific diseased or injured body part.
Pain is our body’s way of getting our attention quickly, alerting us to a problem.
When you're in pain, it seems like nothing else matters more than making the pain go away, and pain management becomes all-consuming depending on the level of pain you're experiencing.
While acute pain (sudden onset related to an injury or illness, usually short term) can be debilitating, it can also be useful in helping you and your doctor treat the cause of the pain and help you with successful pain management. The more specific you are when describing the location, the frequency and type of pain to your doctor; the better chance you have of sending it packing.
Unfortunately, chronic pain in situations like fibromyalgia and arthritis are much more difficult to treat. Pain can rob you of what was formerly an active, normal life. It can trigger depression and hopelessness. Weeks, months and years of pain can take a serious toll on even the most optimistic person’s quality of life. Sometimes chronic pain can take years to diagnose (and treat).
Fortunately, you do not have to suffer alone and you do not have to suffer in silence. Millions of Americans deal with pain in some form on a daily basis. I'm one of them.
Treatment and pain management is available; it varies depending on the location, type and cause of your pain. There are options for pain management through your doctor, but as anyone with chronic pain knows...that is becoming more and more difficult. There are also a lot of options for pain relief that don't come from a prescription pad.
If it hurts, see a doctor first. You may be able to take care of it with home treatment, but definitely seek a doctor’s care because as much as we all hope we can take care of our pain, sometimes it's out of our league. A professional diagnosis can help you either get medical-based pain management or help you to manage your pain with the right home treatments.
No matter whether you use professional pain management services, home remedies and treatments, or both...treat your pain. Don't let it destroy your quality of life. You get one body; give yourself the care you deserve to successfully manage your pain.
Every type of pain relief on the site has been something that I have personally tried. I've been in pain of some kind for decades, and I sometimes think I've bought every lotion, device, herbal remedy or anything else that promised pain relief. I've been prescribed medications over the years that have been later pulled from the market by the FDA (but I'm still here!). One thing I know for sure, I will never give up. Most days I can live a semi-normal life by using different strategies to control my pain. I do see traditional medical practitioners and I use home pain relief products.

No matter how much something works for me, or how much I rave about a product or treatment, I would never treat my own pain without a doctor's input as a starting point. I am not a doctor and I don't play one on the internet. Once you've seen your physician, you can go to other parts of the site to learn different ways I've learned to manage my pain successfully. Pain relief doesn't have a one-size-fits-all approach. The more you know and the more you try, the greater your odds are of being able to live with much less pain.
